(23,294 posts)For two decades weve had an osprey nest on a light pole in our pioneer league baseball stadium
until this summer, we were the Missoula Osprey. Nothing ever fell from the nest and hurt a person or property. The Osprey were celebrities
.they still are even though the owners of the team changed the name of the team. Thats a whole other debacle.
How cruel to kill those babies. The so-called wildlife experts ought to know that breeding pair will most likely come back. Are they going to kill the hatchlings year after year? My gawd wildlife does not deserve being stuck with humans on this planet. SMDH.

(34,131 posts)My hometown, Bartow, Florida, has osprey nests everywhere - on lighting for tennis courts, sports fields, power line poles - everywhere. For places where they found the nests inconvenient, the city/county/utilities put up nesting platforms and structures to discourage nests on places where they did not want them. They did NOT go around killing the immature birds!
My parents' house is next to a city part with tennis courts. The ospreys built great nests on the lighting fixtures. The city came in after nesting season, cleaned off the old nests, built nesting platforms, and put in spikes to discourage rebuilding on the lights. The ospreys adapted and still have nests in the park - on the provided nesting platforms.
Outside the hotel where we usually stayed during visits to my parents there is a big power line. The power company put up a nesting platform and for at least ten years the ospreys have used that platform to build their nests rather than use the "V" in the power line structure. It's great since when we had a third floor room on that side we could see right into the nest and get a great view of the osprey chicks.
Give the birds an alternative nesting location and they will likely use it. No need to kill them.
