The only reason people dislike Tim Tebow is because he is a Christian

Oh wait....no. Its because he is, at best, a mediocre quarterback yet receives overwhelming media coverage and praise regardless of his performance. Yeah, that's what I meant. My bad.

I dislike the public display of his faith.

Faith (or whatever...) is a very private thing in my NSHO.

I'm glad that Tim is so grounded in his faith. And I think it serves him well. And his actions back up his comments.

But the public display just says, to me,.... look at me!!!! ain't I a great Xtain!!!

I grew up in Wisconsin but live in Texas now. Totally different environments. Most of my friends back home are religious but they are quieter about it. Here in Texas it is on display all the time. I'm not sure why that is - but it definitely has become part of the culture down here.

Focus on the Family has been identified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Tracking hate groups is what they do.

That ad FoF did for the game tonight was banal and deceptive. That is NOT what FoF is really about.

I think they used Tebow, but he let himself be used. If his 'Christianity' is really of the FoF variety, then it isn't anything to respect or celebrate.

Edit to add (hit post too soon): still I think his football playing should be dealt with on its merits. I.e. if he's really a GREAT quarterback, then he deserves attention for his play. And he has somehow led the Broncos to a lot of wins since he took over. So on that facet I'll wait and see. But the attention to his religion is highly annoying.

But the media don't deride those QBs anywhere near as much as they do Tebow.

Mike Vick and Mark Sanchez come immediately to mind. I'll take a person who behaves like Tim Tebow over one who behaves like Mike Vick any day of the week.
