I've never been skunked before on opening day of dove season

And I still haven't but damn near was today.

Was out from the crack o dawn until about 8 o'clock and bagged 2 doves. One of them was a Eurasian collard dove which has no season and no limit in CA. I only took four shots.

Our creek has been dry since March 2014 and the birds have pretty much disappeared.

This was also the first year that non lead shot was required.

For the reply. I'm not a fan of dove hunting as it seems to leave a lot of lost and wounded birds.

I do kill 3-4 deer a year and process them myself and that's the meat we eat.

7. I have been and was this year...

My buddy with the field reported that lack of rain failed to fire off both the hay and sunflower plantings. He hasn't gone to his property yet as a result. I tried a public hunting field and have only a hyper-extended knee to show for it. Gonna wait till Wed or Thur when a cool front moves in to try another public field. I plan on scoutimg the edge of the 5,000 impoundmemt at Granger WMA for an early teal season spot (opens Sat.). Temps will be in the upper 80s for highs, instead of the upper 90s, now.
