Just weeks into hunting season, already 2 dead in the Upstate

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -Just four weeks into deer hunting season in South Carolina and already two people in the Upstate have lost their lives.

Lance Corporal Henry Barnett with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources says it’s not unusual for hunters to make mistakes early in the season.

"People early-on sometimes forget their good habits, misjudging the foreground, background, where the target is and misjudging what the target is," said Barnett.

He says some hunters also forget the ten commandments of firearm safety, including maintaining muzzle control, keeping your finger off of the trigger and keeping the safety on until you’re ready to shoot.
