Sarah Palin shakes hands during a book signing, Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013 in Bethlehem, Pa. The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee signed copies of her new book, Good Tidings and Great Joy: Protecting the Heart of Christmas. Palin chose to start her book tour near a city with obvious connections to the holiday. Bethlehem was founded by Moravians on Christmas Eve, 1741. Its nickname is the Christmas City and the city draws many tourists during the holiday season. (AP Photo/The Express-Times, Matt Smith)
For decades Ive been told by my adversaries in the religious right that they only seek a place at the table for their Christian worldview well, their version of Christianity, that is.
But evidence has mounted recently that what they really want is something else entirely: to own the table, determine what goes on it and force-feed everyone the same gruel they consume.
Consider the outcry over the U.S. Air Force Academys decision to alter the Honor Oath cadets take every academic year. It formerly concluded, always, with the phrase So help me God.
The problem is that some cadets didnt want to say a religious oath. Since it makes no sense to force a person to swear an oath that he or she disbelieves, academy officials made the eminently sensible decision to make the God part optional.

SP gives me the creeps. I cannot bear to look at her because I know I'll get nightmares. Christian indeed!
Thanks for a most important OP.

OTOH, it's a good piece to remind liberal/progressives what is going on and to provide points when having discussions with those who may be in a position to make changes.
Thanks for taking the time to read it, IrishAyes.
