I agree, pretty dickish move. I'm a happy content person, but I don't feel the need to slam it in people's faces at every opportunity. Boasting and gloating about being soooo happy really just says to me "i'm insecure, alone and really damned confused..so i'm going to say this to make everyone think my life is so much better than theirs" To be honest if someone boasted and gloated about being so happy to me, I'd pity them. You don't need to boast and gloat about true happiness, you just feel it inside and sure it makes you smile..but the over the top happiness you're describing is fake, and masking a big fault.

Seems appropriate.
Also it is based on impact, not the correctness of the person.
You must be happy that your Pope has joined G W Bush (twice), Ken Starr Rudy Giuliani, and Vladimir Putin as recent honorees.
Do you think this is somehow an affirmation of his actions?

recipients. These are the people you proudly put your Pope next to. None of whom are Hitler
If you think it is an honor and not Time's impression of influence, go with it.
You presumption that those of us who have a problem with the Church would find this troublesome is very revealing.

(40,416 posts)The way his rhetoric has been chewing up the media, to say nothing of Vatican behavior prior to his selection, Francis was the obvious choice for a media outlet like Time Mag.
It was nearly inevitable.

Not going to throw a party, but I am optimistic.
As a fellow New Yorker, your post title has a certain resonance and I wouldn't use it for such a trivial and light-hearted thread.
Since that is how we asked after people after 9/11.
edhopper
(33,554 posts)Does telling you that your title has a connection to 9/11 for me make you need a hug and a cup of tea?
rug
(82,333 posts)but that particular phrase; "is everyone OK?", though I believe you did think about it's connection, was something that I heard and said over and over during that time. It resonates with me and a lot of New Yorkers. So 9/11 happens to be the answer to this question.
I guess that is immaterial to you while you do this victory dance for your guy getting such an incredible, meaningful honor. :sarcasm"

(33,554 posts)For the Pope. I am talking about about your use of that phrase. But I guess inadvertantly upsetting another DU member and fellow New Yorker isn't a big deal. Very Christian of you.

(82,333 posts)"I don't begrudge the choice of Pope Francis: some of his pronouncements are impressive with the potential to achieve real change," Greenwald wrote, before citing others who share his view that Snowden "influenced this year's news events" more than any other.
"But for the reasons which the New Yorker's John Cassidy, the New York Times' Margaret Sullivan, and the Washington Post's Andrea Peterson all stated, Snowden is clearly, by far, the person who has most influenced this year's news events. If it were a serious magazine with minimally brave editors, then of course Snowden would have been chosen, but I never expected him to be precisely because that's not what TIME is."
