Atheist's donation of $3,000 finally finds a home

By Jonathan Bullington, Tribune reporter
8:07 a.m. CST, January 10, 2014

Two months and two rejections later, a $3,000 donation raised by a high school math teacher and atheist blogger has found a home with the Niles Township Food Pantry.

Niles Township Clerk Charles Levy said the food pantry foundation received and deposited Hemant Mehta's check early this week.

"It came in as a contribution and it was deposited with the other contributions that came in," Levy said on today.

Mehta originally raised the money in late October following news that American Legion Post 134 pulled its support from the Morton Grove Park District in response to a park board commissioner's refusal to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Thanks for posting.

I can't really put a comment together at this time.

Reading the article just left me shaking my head.

Hardly.

Glad it will go to good use and that he was persistent.
