When it comes to paying for law school, most of us fill out paperwork to secure shiny loans that haunt us for years to come. But there are a few students who think outside the box. Law school tuition Kickstarter campaigns crop up from time to time. There was also a website set up to sell future income streams in exchange for debt payments. Generally, these efforts to outsource student debt are the work of narcissists unwilling to take personal responsibility and pay for their life decisions.
And then we see something like this:
Well, thats a horse of another color! Its not that you want a law degree without having to suffer the consequences of your actions, its that God wants it. Nothing reflects the model of Jesus Christ more than getting what you want without suffering at all.
Lets check out this plea for a free law school education complete with its own movie trailer!

(45,251 posts)some way of checking out whether someone is playing me for a fool or not.
I don't have enough money myself to be giving money to people who don't really, really need it. I have done that a few times online because the stories were so heart-rending, but it's possible that some people are just good at writing heart-rending stories. And I am not donating to make sure someone's writing skills pay off.
I've donated at other venues, but there was one post in particular at DU that I saw that broke my heart. So, I donated.
As a result of the donation, I received links to the site that was collecting the money to enable me to keep up with developments as to that poster. The person raised well over 5 figures relatively quickly. I don't remember how much, but I do remember well over 5 figures.
I was glad for that because his/her situation seemed desperate. But then, the thank you note at the fund-raising website said something like, "You always come through for me."
I don't regret my donations, even if everyone to whom I donated was a liar. And, it certainly is possible for someone to be desperate chronically. However, that "always" did give me enough pause that I think it may take more than a post at DU to send me running for my charge card.
Ultimately, we should be able to have some level of comfort that some other entity, our government or something, is taking care of people who are really needy to the point where we don't have to worry about a poster's babies starving. Then, we would have the luxury to decide if we want to fund someone's education or writing project.
Unfortunately, we cannot be confident about that yet. And that is a shame on our government, IMO.
I apologize because most of this post is not directly on topic, but I think the above could be important.

(146,218 posts)a fraud. It's embarrassing.
Anyone can be taken if the shyster is good enough at what they do. Anyone.
I don't know if she is a fraud or not, but I certainly won't be giving her any money. At any rate, I though the article was pretty funny.

(45,251 posts)again apologize for its being mostly OT, had to do with someone saying she was a single mom who had just hit one of her kids for saying they were hungry, or something along those lines.
Whether the particular person in your OP is sincere or not, going to law school is not an emergency. A student or wannabe student has options other than making an online plea. Even if I approved of Regent, that does not present me with the moral dilemma that some other stories have put before me.

(146,218 posts)I have seen other pleas for funds to go to school, but this is the first I have seen for a law school. And I agree with your statement about Regent - if they are really into doing god's work, then they ought to take care of her.

(38,958 posts)she basically wants to swindle the public so that she in turn can be swindled by Regent Law School to become what was described as an under qualified graduate of their charming law school.
I just don't think I will be participating in her efforts.

Whatever.

(4,473 posts)And are you going to mock someone who says God told her to feed the hungry?

(49,533 posts)and instead are committed to your straw man interpretation of it.
I am not interested in any discussion with you unless you can actually prove you comprehend what I said.
Hint: I SAID NOTHING ABOUT MOCKING THE PERSON FEEDING THE HOMELESS.
