Vatican refuses to hand over files on accused pedophile priests

The Vatican has refused to hand over the files of Australian priests accused of sex crimes to the child abuse royal commission.

The Vatican said the commission's request for documents on each allegation involving an Australian cleric was "neither possible nor appropriate".

Reasons included ongoing church investigations, and that internal working documents were the sovereign property of the Holy See.

When you're already in hot water over a cover-up, you don't prove that the problem is being fixed or that those "on-going church investigations" are worth anything by refusing to hand over documents. Especially in light of those revelations from Minneapolis that the Diocese wasn't following the official policy that was supposed to end the crisis, even though the archbishop of that diocese had created the policy himself!

or maybe it's just that the bar for religious leaders is set so low, but for evolutionary biologists that are outspoken atheists, suddenly the bar is set much higher at what is or isn't offensive.
