The Death of Truthiness: A True Believer Mourns the Colbert Report

http://religiondispatches.org/the-death-of-truthiness-a-true-believer-mourns-the-colbert-report/

BY STEPHANIE BREHM DECEMBER 18, 2014

In the beginning, there was The Colbert Report.

I believe that today we lost the best and truthiest television program ever in the history of televisions—and of histories.

Known to his friends as The Rev. Sir Dr. Stephen T. Mos Def Colbert, D.F.A., Heavyweight Champion of the World, Stephen Colbert stood at the helm of the Report for nine short years, guiding us with his “tips of the hat,” chiding us with his “wags of the finger,” and standing up against leaders who “think with their heads rather than know with their hearts.”

A beacon of “truthiness,” Colbert warned us of reality’s “strong liberal bias” and in doing so, “America’s most famous Catholic” changed media, politics, and religion forever. Mr. Colbert was a great American. Indeed, in his own words, Stephen Colbert was the greatest American.

Who will take up the mantle and shine the light of "truthiness" for all of us lost in the darkness?

We are residents of the Colbert Nation now without a country.

For the edification of academics, ETs, time travelers or human escapees from 21st century Earth. It would document just how crazy things got down here. The Colbert Report explains these times better than any historian or archaeologist I can imagine.

He nails us humans every time. Ouch.

Colbert, along with Jon Stewart and others have empowered us to question the 'truth' as spewed by Faux news. Just because 'The Colbert Report' is no longer out there doesn't mean the Truthiness has to die. It lives in all of us and we can continue the legacy and we have awesome people still out there reporting it with the original report of 'Truthiness' with Jon Stewart' and also over at HBO with Jon Oliver.

I'd love it if Comedy Central brought Oliver back to their channel but Oliver swears too damn much!

some people never did really get it.

I saw Jon Oliver's show a couple of times and it didn't grab me. I think he's best at specific pieces.

More will come, but it will be hard to match Colbert.
