Romans

As I pull up behind a pick-up truck, I notice a sticker on the rear cab window. I can't make out the type, but there is an image of a child. He seems to have fallen and has his arms raised in anguish or a cry for help. The view is taken from behind, so there is no face. I figure it's some kind of variation on the "baby on board" message. When we stop at the light, I am finally able to make it out. It says "All knees shall bow". WTF? OK, I see that the kid is on his knees. I assume his arms are upheld, praising the Lord. Still, WTF?

Later, I get out my phone to see if I can find the image online. Before I can finish typing 'all knees', google has already completed the phrase. It's from Romans 14:11. “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”
Hmm, what kind of message is that? That doesn't sound like "Above all, love one another." It doesn't even resemble the Golden Rule. I would never ask anyone to bow before me, why should I bow to someone else?

I began to search for the sticker I saw, but had no luck. I saw all kinds of religious BS using that phrase, but I'll spare you any images. Then I saw this:

If you don't recognize the character, then you have missed out on the funniest comic strip in recent history. If you do recognize the character, then you know how WRONG this image is. Perhaps you've seen a sticker on a car showing Calvin peeing on something. Now THAT would be true to character.

Almost without exception, all the xians I know all hot to trot to bow before their God, are otherwise highly patriotic, but also nostalgic for the British Royal Family.

I don't get it, the bible describes a tyrant, literally a king. And they can't wait to prostrate themselves before it.

Boggles my mind.

This is merely Paul saying that he believes that everyone will acknowledge and praise god.

I see nothing here that would contradict love one another or the golden rule.

Of all the things in the bible to get upset about, this one seems rather silly.

no that is not merely what it means. "bowing a knee" goes way past "acknowledge and praise" and is the traditional act of submission and compliance done by a servant, subject, or slave before his master.

"I see nothing here that would contradict love one another or the golden rule." - oh other than it is the opposite of the egalitarianism implied by the golden rule, it is instead specifically an authoritarian and hierarchical ritual.

You see nothing because you choose to be deliberately blind and oppositional to anything posted here by your list of bad atheists.
