Marco Rubio warned of a clear and present danger to Christians in an interview published Tuesday, speaking of his Roman Catholic faith and how it guides his policy positions.

“If you think about it, we are at the water’s edge of the argument that mainstream Christian teaching is hate speech,” Rubio said in the interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network. “Because today we’ve reached the point in our society where if you do not support same-sex marriage you are labeled a homophobe and a hater.”

The next step, Rubio argued, is going after Christianity writ large.

“After they are done going after individuals, the next step is to argue that the teachings of mainstream Christianity, the catechism of the Catholic Church, is hate speech and there’s a real and present danger,” he said.

After all, Christianity has no serious text to rely on.

Paul? Paul who?

Mark? Mark who?

As of writing, Islam is a far more dangerous hate speech.

Christianity is just a mixed bag of unattributable statements.

There are christians who believe that there should be equality for all loving relationships whether they are between opposite sex or same sex couples. There are christians who are opposed to that equality.

The important thing is to note that there are different kinds of christians and to recognize that there are some who fully support your position and some who don't.

I'm pretty certain that every christian who participates on this site has no issue with "buggery".

So, I'm still not clear on your point.

Yours and yours alone. Many other Christians disagree with you. You have no right to say they're wrong unless you have evidence.

Damn, it must sting to have all your admonitions come back to haunt you, huh? Oh wait, no, that's right - you get to do things that you chide others for. Yay double standards!

Some here know exactly what the essence of each religion is.

And, strangely enough, it cannot be derived from what the texts say.

But the way they read the texts enable them to know what is true.

Both of which are in the Old Testament, which was pretty hateful overall, with God telling folks to crush babies against stones and kill everyone in various places, and sending bears to tear kids up for making fun of a bald guy?

Sorry Rubio, much of the Old Testament has been hate speech for over 2000 years.

31. Actually there's a few references in the NT.
Thu May 28, 2015, 10:34 AM

Paul's usual tripe, but also sometimes referenced is how Jesus referred to marriage in Matthew 19:3 -

He answered, ‘Have you not read that the one who made them at the beginning “made them male and female," and said, “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh”? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.’

I think it's important we acknowledge the bad stuff throughout the bible rather than just say someone isn't reading it correctly.

Too many supposed christian candidates think it's okay for them to voice whatever despicable opinion they have on equal protection under the laws for gay Americans, but are deeply offended when they are called out by others who have just as much a right to free speech as the homophobic senator and his ilk.

Mr. Rubio you should know it's not hate speech to tell a bigot his words are offensive.

Mr. Rubio sounds a lot like Mr. Russell from 1964: "We will resist to the bitter end any measure or any movement which would have a tendency to bring about social equality"
