6 Signs You’re an Irrational Atheist

Posted on September 2, 2015
by Godless Mom

It hasn’t been long since I began writing as an outspoken atheist. I’m still pretty new to the online community and all the players in it. When I first started, I was so inspired by people like Richard Dawkins and Hemant Mehta and Christopher Hitchens. I’m still making my way through their works with utter glee.

It was a quote by Sam Harris, though, that was the true dawn of Godlessmom.com,

I don’t know what it is about this quote that struck me, but it was the instant I finished reading it that I had thought, I need to be a part of this conversation.

It’s been about a year and a half now that I’ve been here with you guys. I came into this naive about a lot of things: how offensive my words could be seen as by theists; what lengths believers are willing to go to to defend their faith; to what degree atheists are discriminated against in other parts of the world.

until some one gets hurt.

I have no idea who is correct. I see no evidence, however that doesn't mean some one might find some thing some day. Most likely way after I have merged with the universe. I guess I'm more interested in the culture that surround both sides

I tend to agree with Lao Tzu, The Tao that is spoken of, is not the eternal Tao. Those at the extremes of both sides, only see the issue as black and white, while it all looks gray to me.

I couldn't agree more. Makes one want to steer clear of the zealots and crusaders.
Love the SS Outrage part.

or religion, for that matter. The only topics they mention are gender equality and fat-shaming. It seems she's come across some arseholes, and noticed they're atheists too. This is the basic message: " In my naivete, I neglected to remember that atheists are human, too, and have the potential to have all the very same faults as everyone else." It's not about 'rational' and 'irrational', either; it's about personalities, moderation, a sense of humour or perspective, and so on.

of course all the resident atheist-haters see it as confirmation of their beliefs about any outspoken atheists.

And how is Sam Harris, basically paraphrasing Epicurus, relevant.

but as for the op, it has been yet another horrible week for religion and its supporters, so this kind of post is quite understandable.

What she sees as 'irrational' is people behaving badly on the internet - no sense of humour, always taking sides and attacking, making childish insults, that kind of thing.

Their are people like that on the internet? Stop the presses!!!

It's mostly atheists, right? I mean there are no religious people like that on the net.

Both have the righteous thing going. Most atheists and most believers don't give a fuck about being right when it comes to the question of belief in deities.

Seems like I've seen those same 6 things said about Hillary supporters and Sanders' supporters.

"You are perpetually angry.
You’re a pro at the knee-jerk reaction.
You can’t handle it when people disagree with you.
Your YouTube channel looks like recess....."
...oh y'know, and the rest of her silly complaints.

They must all be irrational atheists!

"what lengths believers are willing to go to to defend their faith"

When you believe it's more important to defend a homophobic misogynistic institution from the criticism of its victims than to acknowledge the damage done by it, you really shouldn't call others irrational.
