Bangladesh: Islamist group tells women to 'stay at home', media to support jihad

http://www.dnaindia.com/world/report-bangladesh-islamist-group-tells-women-to-stay-at-home-media-to-support-jihad-2136897

Police said on Tuesday they were investigating an email sent to various media outlets reportedly by a banned Islamist group in Bangladesh threatening to topple "towering buildings" and telling the media not to run anything that goes against what the mail describes as jihad.

The email sent after a series of deadly attacks targeting moderates and foreigners contains a six-point directive that includes telling women to stay at home. It urges businesses to fire any female employees, and says that working outside of the home is a "punishable offense" according to Sharia, or Islamic law. It does not elaborate what would constitute appropriate punishment.

...

It said the list of 15 names is not final, warning that anyone who attempts to degrade Islam would face serious consequences while anyone supporting the atheist bloggers will not "be spared."

But just remember - this has nothing at all to do with religion! Probably just a territorial dispute!

1. What you must remember is that women have rights in Islam

Essentially, the right to be stay at home mothers.

But hey, isn't it grand?

I'm sure ladies like Marie Curie, Cleopatra or Oprah would have been thrilled.

3. Why do you use restrictive words like bigotry and sexism?

Confining women to their kitchens is honoring them.

Or so I heard. Around 6:00, God made man to better than woman so he could provide.

Inspiring.

9. And? One religion as bad as the other? Was that your point?

Bingo. We (almost) agree.

Lots of religions are harmful. The abrahamic ones are among the worst.

Any other point we might agree on?

5. Neither the RCC nor mainstream Christianity treats women with respect either.

It's not just Islam, of course - is there any major religious belief system that doesn't regard women as inferior to men and, in many cases, as property?

7. Mysoginy has been rampant in the Roman Catholic Church for centuries

• It started from the get-go with the 'apostle' Paul: Corinthians 14:33-35: As in all the churches of the holy one, women should keep silent in the churches, for they are not allowed to speak, but should be subordinate even as the law says.

(one cannot treat women with more respect)

• Tertullian addresse women thus: You are the devil's gateway, you desecrated that fatal tree; you first betrayed the law of God, ... You deserved death, and it was the son of God who had to die!

• St. Clement suggests that “the consciousness of their own nature (women) must evoke feelings of shame”

'Mysoginy and the Roman Catholic Church' would probably be a very thick book..

Fits right in with the snorting dismissiveness about the overt homophobia of the same institution.
