National Day of Prayer Task Force claims that atheists are awakening a 'sleeping giant'

According to the National Day of Prayer Task Force, a non-governmental organization headed by Shirley Dobson (whose husband is conservative evangelist James Dobson), more Americans than ever will be participating in the National Day of Prayer on May 3 because of atheists who are "assaulting" religious liberty.

In a press release issued this week, the Task Force proclaims,

The will of the American people has prevailed to preserve our freedom to gather and pray on Thursday, May 3rd, in observance of the 61st annual National Day of Prayer. Over the past few years, the deliberate and relentless attacks by several atheist organizations on our religious freedoms have only increased the determination of those across this great nation. These assaults on our liberty have provoked the masses and awakened a sleeping giant, proven by the overwhelming increase in National Day of Prayer events. It is evident, that at our core, Americans are still a people of prayer.

The Vice Chairman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force, John Bornschein, adds,

Right now the National Day of Prayer is experiencing more than 35% growth in prayer events over last year! That means the 61st annual National Day of Prayer will be the largest in recorded history! From prayer flights over state capitals, to 'Pray and Play' times for moms with toddlers, more people are answering the call to pray than ever before. This response is definitely a statement to those who would try to take away the very freedoms that our Founding Fathers sought and fought to ensure for themselves, and for us.

6. I can't believe these people can actually sell the whole "war on reigion BS"

I grew up in a basically religious family. I was more like my Dad and just appreciated the moral concepts presented. The reality of organized religion just didn't jive with the concepts of the basic teachings.
What I learned back then didn't include condemning or ostracizing people who didn't believe as I did.
Since that time I've had much time to live and experience the lives of people with other beliefs and a sexual identity that didn't fall within the black and white concepts that we are lead to believe are the only choices.
It may be an old song but we all have to be able to walk a mile in the other ones shoes.
