Kneeling at NFL liturgies its a little strange for a Catholic

From the article:

From a Catholic perspective, the controversy over kneeling during the national anthem is strange. Many people, like President Trump, are criticizing players for kneeling because they say it shows disrespect. .....

In the case of the NFL, those kneeling should be allowed to explain their symbolic action. If they say it is a protest against racial injustice and not an attack on the flag, their interpretation should be respected. They are the authors of their action and have a unique right and obligation to explain it. Challenging their interpretation of their actions is arrogant and demeaning. To tell them they cannot express and explain their views is to cut off their freedom of expression.

The NFL, and sports in general, as religion. guillaumeb Sep 2017 #2

Why would you assume that I meant it as an insult to religion? eom guillaumeb Sep 2017 #8

However, I for one can see the link. Sports rules are often changed to make the game more entertaining, just like in church...

Religious people like to call other things religions (sports, atheism, etc.), intending it to be an insult. WTF?

If sports is literally to be taken as a religion, then the word religion is meaningless and that we give religion ANY special treatment (like taxes) is absolutely absurd.

If you are meaning this figuratively, then why are you using religion as an insult?
