Greek Orthodox Religious Choral Music

All male choral singers in traditional religious music a capella performances. Almost 2 hours of this, which can serve as a contemplative background for a wide range of activities. There is a similarity in melodic style to other Mediterranean religious music, including Islam. The music uses Byzantine scales and modes, which do not always match what we are used to. Microtonal intervals are part of these unusual scales, in common with scales used in other Mediterranean music. Because of this, these chants may sound slightly odd to ears used to Western intervals.

I recently attended a Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony for the first time. The wedding included some, I'll call them chants, although it kinda sounded like singing, sorta. I thought, these guys really aren't very good, but with your information above, I'm going to have to revisit that opinion. Just different.

Someone told me they are not Trinitarian. But put the focus more on the older, stiffer, God the Father. With his less forgiving, warlike habits.
