I am confused. I constantly read posts here describing how religion is in decline, but according to articles such as this, the growth of religious groups is expected to continue.

(29,166 posts)established western countries tend to have fewer children as the cost per child increases dramatically in the past century plus a move from agriculture to industrial to service/tech economies place more emphasis on expensive education and longer "adolescence" (no longer considered an adult at 14 or 16... or even 18).
As Muslim countries such as Indonesia and Pakistan move to less rural / agriculture I expect their population growth to slow (not to mention a lack of resources to fuel population growth).

(14,847 posts)You have read posts here describing how religion is in decline in specific places. For example, religion is on a steep decline in the UK, where the majority of young people say they are not religious. You have to read all the words, Gil, and refrain from imagining ones that aren't there. Otherwise, you will continue to be confused.

(16,104 posts)Nihilism and existentialism took root in Europe after the horror of World War II - can you blame them for seeing no purpose in reproducing?
And now Germany and other European countries are accepting millions of Muslim refugee immigrants because they need them!
