His views on GLBT rights became prominent during Argentina's relatively recent vote on GLBT marriage. Not surprisingly, he took a pretty rigid anti-GLBT marriage stance, but appears to have softened once it passed, saying that he could support the marriage law but not adoption portion of it.
We shall see, but I think going outside the inner circle could be a good sign.

(106,886 posts)That's a given of sorts. Yet a Jesuit, more real world style leader for the church bodes well, imo. I'm glad the cardinals made the choice. We shall see.
