Dear Republicans. Failure of the political religious right, the denial of context or interpretation.

The American religious right has long wielded the bible and the constitution as icons of their political movement. And have enamored a segment of the American electorate to support their misleading, simplistic take on both documents. And to vote along those lines.

They are wrong. A simple black and white assessment of either overlooks the history, the context and the implication of both.

Both texts are open to interpretation, as has been done numerous times.

For one, why the focus on Christianity as the basis of American culture? Sure, there's a strong background here. But we're growing and changing our cultural / religious mix. Get a clue.

For the other, why the stubborn denial to recognize that the Constitution is a work in progress. We've grown as a nation and it's been reflected in our basic political document. Change happens.

Extremist simplicity is your failure.

You are welcome to join us in the future of America. Or not.
