but others such as themselves for whom there was also no one.

Knowing it wasn't enough, I offered them what refuge I could for 50 minutes a day, and in some cases for what time they sought me out in-between classes, at lunch, and on field-trips, or grading papers at the end of the day and, then . . . watched each one walk, run, wander, charge, dance, march, saunter off . . . into a world that I knew contained more predators than lovers.
