ChristCore, reviewed: An atheist punk goes inside Christian hardcore

Chris Knight | 13/05/03 1:15 PM ET

“After the baptism, we all make our way back to the music tents” is not a phrase you’ll often hear at a music festival. But that’s the way they roll at outdoor hardcore Christian punk rock gatherings, which some compare to Woodstock, minus the drugs and alcohol, and with praying.

Filmmaker, punk rocker and avowed atheist Justin Ludwig takes to the road in this sparse, 74-minute documentary to find out what all the fuss is about. Unfortunately, ChristCORE doesn’t come away with many answers.

He started this journey so anti-Christian that he once penned a punk song called Screw Christian Hardcore … This Is Hell. (He didn’t use the word “screw.”)

But in an awkward transition he decides he wants to learn more about a musical genre that “touches thousands if not millions of kids.” That’s a vague number. He later settles on “droves.”

I see nothing positive about this. It would be negative even without the xtian message.

If they want to hear something Christian and beautiful they should listen to the Miserere by Gregorio Allegri.
