The Ten Worst Christian Media Hacks

Put together by David Sessions at Patrol - a review of religion and the modern world:

http://www.patrolmag.com/2010/11/29/david-sessions/the-ten-worst-christian-media-hacks-10-6/

And yes, sharp-eyed nitpickers...I realize this article was published way back in November 2010, so it can't possibly have any relevance to the Sophisticated Theology (tm) of the modern world.

10. Michael Gerson, The Washington Post

9. Jim Wallis, Sojourners

8. Chuck Colson

7. Michael Novak, American Enterprise Institute

6. Albert Mohler, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

5. David Limbaugh

4. L. Brent Bozell III, Media Research Center

3. Frank Schaeffer, The Huffington Post

2. Joseph Farah, WorldNetDaily

1. Dinesh D’Souza, The King’s College

and Jim Wallis is a progressive christian, which makes him a frequent target of right-wing christians.

I am an atheist (>2 decades), but it's unfair to lump Schaeffer and Wallis with "christian hacks" like Colson and D'Souza.

...inclusion in this collection is specifically in reference to the person’s punditry, not the other ministries, activism, pursuits in which they may be involved. Frank Schaeffer has written what many people consider a beautiful novel, but as a pundit he’s a hack. Many people consider his father a brilliant intellectual, but his late political writing was hackery.

As for Wallis, the author (David Sessions) didn't limit the list to right-wingers. As he also noted in the Comments.

and is a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. He writes critically of the fundamentalist Christianity in which he was raised. But he is a Christian to this day.

Why, just this morning I tuned into Focus on the Family!

Some "Xian wife and mother" was bloviating about her wonderful son, and how she raised him as a Gawd-fearing Xian. He went on to graduate from Annapolis, and was planning "a career in politics."

Then she said his name - Jason Paul Kent.

I knew that sounded familiar, and was wracking my brain about where I'd heard it.

Then I remembered - on one of my beloved true-crime shows.

Jason Paul Kent chased his wife's ex-husband thru a parking lot and shot him in the back, multiple times. When the cops searched Kent's car, they found more guns, silencers, and "a large women's dress and wig."

They also found Kent's neat, precise military-style logbook of recent activities - Kent had been stalking the ex-husband for weeks, noting his comings and goings and often parking outside his house to spy on him. Which pretty much blew any attempt at a "heat of passion" defense.

Mom is currently trying to spring her boy out of prison, with no luck so far. Kent committed his murder in Florida, which takes that "life sentence" stuff very seriously.
