Religion is a common thread in each conflict. But why? Dont these folks worship the same deity?

(33,570 posts)then by default they are all worshiping the same God. And since we aren't suppose to bother with the difference that they claim is the essential truth to God, we should just ignore the conflicting differences.
And their being only one God according to these religions, obviously God does not care that his most fervent followers kill each other over their belief in him and doesn't feel the need to stop it.
Now you might get some answers of the "blind men and the camel" category, but that doesn't speak to God's roll in all this.

There is, as explained by the authors, the Authoritative God, the Benevolent God, the Critical God, and the Distant God.

What's going on in the Middle East is geopolitics and economic struggles. For centuries, with the same religions as now, there was relative peace. Then oil was discovered and the craggy gaze of capital slowly turned.

If there is a god or gods, maybe he/she/it presents itself differently to different people or populations. Perhaps he/she/it never presents itself to some people at all.
No one will ever know, and the argument about whether the major faiths worship the same god or not seems purely academic.
