It is clever and funny, but I wouldn't assume that it is true. At least one other item like this has been shown to be made up by Mr. Thorne.
I've looked through part of his site and find him to be an excellent writer. And I also know how insistent and pompous many of these types (the "chaplain" can be when they're lyin' fer jeeesuzz.
