I just posted this in Health, and decided to cross post here because I think a lot of you will find this article about the placebo effect highly interesting. Finally I see an article about the placebo effect that actually "gets it", from the Wall Street Journal, no less.

By the way, in a somewhat related note, my daughter reminded me that several years ago she had a urinary tract infection that antibiotics was barely touching. She continued to have symptoms, and her urologist gave her condition some sort of label and wanted to do all sorts of additional testing. Her ND, who usually didn't do this kind of work, finally determined that she was "PISSED OFF". Once she dealt with being pissed off (clearing by the ND), her urinary tract symptoms completely disappeared. That is one reason she is so devoted to her ND, though he rarely does that kind of stuff, generally outsourcing it.

Words have meaning. Being pissed off expresses itself as urinary problems

It's better to deal with the issues when they come to your attention, rather than wait for it to become chronic.

When someone says

that person is a pain in the neck
I can't stand him
I can't stand it
she's a back stabber
it was as if someone knocked the wind out of you


All those things are real on some level.

On another note...

Years ago, I began to receive healing just by thinking of an herb, medicine or healing treatment. It took me a few years to begin to actively work with that in my practice.

And just the other day, while working during one of the gift sessions, I realized why I have had such trouble explaining what it is that I do. I needed to embrace the term Shaman, because that is my practice. Last night I looked up shaman and it read like a list of all the things I do.

2. the "word" thing

Probably related to neurolinguistic programming.....

After all, our junk DNA arranges itself by grammar rules--totally makes sense that there is a big relationship between our language, and the expression of our genes, and that the expression of our genes can be reprogrammed with language plus intention.

It just makes sense.

All successful energetic techniques use language and other symbols, that can be understood by the autonomic nervous system, and passed along physically through genetic expression. People need to realize that they have the power within themselves to accomplish this, and with practice, do not need to rely completely on energy healing practitioners. Of course this requires a bit of learning, and a number of self help techniques have been developed (EFT being just one example).

In the placebo article, the researchers essentially acted as energy practioners, by the way in which they verbally characterized the diet, which actually changed hormone levels! They could be called shamans...........!! They don't label themselves as shamans, but in truth we are all shamans.

And it is so obvious why "diets" don't work. They are characterized by "lack" and "not enough." Who can successfully live with that?
