Catholic nun awarded UN's 'Nansen Refugee Award'
September 18, 2013. (Romereports.com) Sister Angelique Namaika, spends most of her time in remote regions of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. That's where she helps women who where once victimized by Ugandan rebels. Her tireless work has earned her this year's prestigious United Nation's 'Nansen Refugee Award.'
Through her center for 'Reintegration and Development', Sister Angelique has helped over 2,000 girls and women who were forced out of their homes and later abused, mostly by Ugandan rebels from the so called 'Lord's Resistance Army.' Through her moral and practical support she tries to give these women strength to recover from their trauma, especially since sometimes, they're not welcomed back into their families or communities.
The 46 year old Catholic nun will officially receive the award in Geneva on September 30th, including the 100,000 dollars to further her cause. Then on October 2nd, she plans to personally meet Pope Francis in Rome.
