Wow, what did you guys think of today's Gospel reading?
The priest who gave the homily pointed out that Jesus was not condemning the rich man because he was rich, but for his indifference to Lazarus's suffering during his lifetime. The priest also pointed out that even now, the rich man still thought of Lazarus as a servant, asking that Lazarus be sent to his five brothers to warn them.
Loved the Amos reading too. Amos is my favorite OT prophet.

(82,333 posts)Then he went off for ten minutes about the need to care for the poor. He proceeded to describe them. People laid off. The elderly who can't cover the bills. The people he met in seminary while working at a aids hospice in Baltimore. He talked about how humbled he was by the people who came to the parish for help "as a last resort" when their lights were turned off.
It definitely caught my attention.

And our regular priest was back today. He had major surgery some weeks ago and is not yet able to resume his duties, so another priest was the celebrant; but it was good to see him again.

(18,470 posts)It was supposed to be the same as the set of ones used in the Catholic Church, but that wasn't the case because the Feast of Saint Michael and All Angels was observed yesterday. I'm not sure if the entire church used the readings from the Feast of Saint Michael and All Angels or if this was left up to the individual rector. I wish if it was something that could be individually decided upon that we had used the regular readings because that is a message that we and all Americans need to hear over and over again.
