He remains suspended as bishop of Limburg, and is currently living in a Benedictine monastery in Bavaria, for a "spiritual time of recovery".

If you recall, he sued Der Spiegel magazine for defamation. Der Spiegel said that when he went to India, he and his vicar general flew first class at a cost of €7000 each for the round trip. He made two sworn affidavits to a German court in this matter, but Der Spiegel showed that he lied. The bishop paid a fine of €20000 (I hope out of his own pocket) and the perjury charges were dropped.

The vicar general is currently administering the diocese, and they are probably looking for a new bishop.

The bishop's house is probably going to be turned into a hostel for the poor or for refugees.
