Baltimore's Jewish community concerned over rise in anti-Semitism

Melvin Luterman didn’t mince words as he addressed the crowd gathered at the Doubletree Hotel in Pikesville.

“We are not a loved people. Don’t kid yourselves,” Luterman, cantor emeritus at Temple Oheb Shalom in Baltimore, told members of the Maryland Federation for Republican Women last month.

Luterman, along with Peter Huessy, president of GeoStrategic Analysis from Potomac and Gabriel Scheinmann, the Director of Policy at the Jewish Policy Center in Washington, D.C, spoke as part of the group’s panel on the Resurgence of Anti-Semitism in the West.

Scheinmann, the U.S.-born son of Israeli parents, said he never grew up feeling like he had to hide his identity as a Jew.

That, unfortunately, is changing, he and the other panelists said.
