French authorities say the killing of an elderly Jewish woman in Paris is being investigated as an anti-Semitic murder. The woman, identified in French media as Mireille Knoll, was stabbed at least 11 times and her body was set on fire.

The Paris prosecutor's office said Monday two suspects have been put in custody. It said it is asking investigating judges to charge the pair with premeditated murder of a vulnerable person for anti-Semitic motives.

The office also asked for the suspects to be jailed pending trial.

Leading Jewish group CRIF said the 85-year-old woman was slain last week in Paris' eastern 11th district. The victim had reportedly escaped a round-up of Jews in Paris during World War II. The group says a neighbor who had previously made anti-Semitic statements was one of the people under arrest. They didn't confirm reports that the man was Muslim.

CRIF asked for "utmost transparency in the ongoing investigation so that the reasons for this barbaric crime are known to everyone as soon as possible."

The group plans a rally in her memory and support of her family on Wednesday.

The body was found the same day a gunmen killed several people in an attack on a supermarket in southern France.

I guess we should be "happy" that this is actually being investigated as an anti-Semitic crime, especially since a few in the recent past, though clearly anti-Semitic, were not called as such.

6. I'll say it.

Many Islamic migrants are overwhelmingly antisemitic, and many violently so. These are daily attacks.

Attacks. Not dog-whistles. Or some asshat painting a swastika on a shul. Brutal, violent, attacks and murders.

Statistically, almost every Jew in Europe will, at some point during his or her life, face a violent attack on his or her person.

In the USA, it's 1 in 4. No other minority group -- normal Muslims, blacks, LGBTQ, hispanics, etc., faces that kind of problem.

And no, it's not Illinois Nazis doing the overwhelming bulk of the violence.

We wouldn't accept unrepentant Nazis immigrating from Germany in the 1950s.

We shouldn't accept unrepentant Islamists now. This is not a matter of PC. The number one victim of Islamists are normal Muslims. (Think of the little girl sold off by her parents in Texas this week --- and then burned with boiling oil for refusing to be sold.)

Heck, think of the gay guys trying to have a good time at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

Get the radicals out. They are not compatible with a progressive civilization.

PARIS — An 85-year-old woman who as a child narrowly escaped France’s most notorious wartime roundup of Jews has been murdered in Paris, and the authorities are calling it a hate crime.

The body of the woman, Mireille Knoll, was found on Friday in her apartment in the city’s working-class 11th arrondissement. She had been stabbed to death, and her body was partly burned after her attackers apparently tried to set fire to the apartment.

The Paris prosecutor’s office said on Monday that Ms. Knoll had been killed because of the “membership, real or supposed, of the victim of a particular religion” — a roundabout way of saying she was killed because she was Jewish.

Ms. Knoll was a child in Paris when, in the summer of 1942, the French police, cooperating with the Germans, rounded up thousands of the city’s Jews, stuffing them into a cycling stadium, the Vélodrome d’Hiver. Virtually all were subsequently murdered at Auschwitz.

Ms. Knoll’s mother, summoned to the stadium like other Parisian Jews, was able to escape at the last minute with her daughter because she had a Brazilian passport, said Meyer Habib, a member of Parliament who has spoken with one of Ms. Knoll’s sons.
