(THIS IS THE JEWISH GROUP! RESPECT!!)A popular disc jockey and pop singer in Iceland compared Jews to Nazis.
Pall Oskar, known abroad as Paul Oscar, who was Icelands representative to the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997, is calling on Iceland to pull out of the event since it is being held in Israel.
During an interview Tuesday on the national radio broadcaster.Rás 1, Oskar crossed over from criticism of Israel and its treatment of the Palestinians to anti-Semitism, the English-language Reykjavik Grapevine reported.
The reason why the rest of Europe has been virtually silent is that Jews have woven themselves into the fabric of Europe in a very sly way for a very long time. It is not at all hip and cool to be pro-Palestine in Britain, he said. The tragedy is that Jews learned nothing from the Holocaust. Instead, they have taken up the exact same policy of their worst enemy.

(738 posts)If it affects many others that way, there might be action there.
A trip in the next 1-2 years had been very likely.

It is a beautiful country with some very friendly men.

(2,961 posts)There's a an often rationalized or ignored antisemitism problem that most have been ignoring for a long time.

(53,831 posts)Though, it has way too many roundabouts! It is also very expensive. The men are very friendly and there are quite a few immigrants, mostly European. Everybody speaks English, and they speak it very well. If you go now, it will be colder that a well-digger's butt, however, there is the possibility you will be able to see the Northern Lights!
Iceland is a European country, and like most European countries, anti-Semitism is making a roaring comeback, and not in just the traditional ways. There are also no Jews...well, like 100...in the entire country.

The women were very lovely, too, by the way. I'm a very tall guy that (I at least like to think) was ruggedly handsome in a very Semitic sort of way. Blue eyes. Fit, anyway. Into weight lifting long before it was cool.
I had a couple of bar conversations (male and female) that could be summarized like this:
Viking: "Oh, so you are a Jew? You don't look like a Jew!"
Me: "What to Jews look like?"
Viking: "Oh, you know [description straight out of Nazi propaganda]. You've also bought drinks, Jews are supposed to be cheap/not-nice/insert every stereotype here."
Not mean, no anger, no malice. Just repeating what they've been told. I'd gently say that was all bullshit and they'd accept my correction when confronted with a real, live, Jew.
The take home lesson is this: Lots of lies have been told about Israel (stole land, whatever). We need to be a bit more forceful in correcting the record. If Israel did half of the lies told about it daily right here on DU, I'd dislike Israel and Jews, too.
