He tells no lies. The President of our Local Democratic Party Committee is Jewish - and he and I have had more than a few discussions about stamping it out before it starts.
Also thrilled with our re-elected Congressman Malinowski's appointment - which he has clearly stated will enable him to get to the root of it - and stop it now.

Freshman Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) cautioned about the rise of antisemitism in progressive politics during a wide-ranging conversation in the inaugural episode of Jewish Insiders Limited Liability Podcast, hosted by Rich Goldberg and Jarrod Bernstein.
Torres, who describes himself as the embodiment of a pro-Israel progressive, said he is mindful of anti-Israel elements within the Democratic Party that have the ability to turn antisemitic. We have an obligation to combat antisemitism no matter where it emerges, whether its from the right, from the left. It has to be fought at every turn and in every form, he said.
My concern is that the pro-BDS left could be to the Democratic Party in American politics what Jeremy Corbyn has been to the Labour Party in British politics, Torres cautioned. It only takes a few demagogues to pump antisemitic poison into the bloodstream of a political party. And so I see it as my mission to resist the Jeremy Corbynization of progressive politics in the United States.

(53,949 posts)As a host here, this will be your first, but only warning. If you wish to discuss issues here, you will be respectful of the group, and that includes, but is not limited to, not engaging in anti-Semitic rhetoric, knowingly, which will be an automatic block from the group, or unknowingly, which results in a warning.
Do not accuse a Jew, especially a Jewish democrat, of "stabbing other democrats in the back" without some prior information. The "stabbed in the back" trope is a common anti-Semitic slur, one that became quite famous through one person's particular use of it, Adolf Hitler, who claimed "Jews stabbed Germans in the back" and thus they lost WWI and were plunged into an economic depression."

We've *talked* about this for years. Now is the time for the party to have this discussion.

(53,949 posts)It is important and shows a real shift in anti-Semitism not being tolerated on our side of the fence. I am glad you shared it because I had not seen it!

The don't-talk-bad-about-Democratic-pols-rule is a good rule, but bad people use it as cover.

(67,782 posts)...(even at 32) considering what he went through in his early life.
Member of the NY City Council at 25 years old, re-elected with 93.5% of the vote (!!). Then he faced 9 opponents last year in the Democratic primary and got 32% of the vote (almost double the next highest vote getter) and was elected in November with 88.7%. That's amazing for such a young guy.
He won his primary even though some "high profile" Democrats campaigned for another candidate, and thousands of dollars were poured into the district from all over the country. Yet he still won big in the primary and even bigger in the general election.
What's interesting is that those prominent Democrats who supported another candidate in the primary all but walked away from him during the general election campaign.
He's going to go far in Congress, I'm sure.

(53,949 posts)It is time to wrestle back the narrative from the extremists who traffic in anti-Semitism. It shouldn't be any surprise that mush of the anti-Semitic narratives have a particular origin point: Russia. It should also be no surprise which people support such anti-Semitic tropes; the ones constantly braying the talking points from Russia, whilst claiming to be "progressive". When it comes to anti-Semitism, it is the bridge that links the two prongs of the horseshoe.

(31,810 posts)Replayed it this weekend. He really gives me hope. Of importance - the rebuilding of the Black/Jewish alliance that lead to so much change for America. We should always be 'natural allies' to each other - and work to bring in other groups being marginalized - that might not have our collective experience of change via activism, and standing up to unjust laws in America.
