POES auroral activity site

This is always a useful link when there's a chance the aurora might shift southward. I just hate that sinking feeling you get when checking the morning headlines and you realize you've missed a rare show.

1. I use it often

Many times I can see an aurora from my back yard. Note that the red arrow is always pointing to the sun and that naturally the aurora is strongest away from the sun. So far this looks like a good one.

2. No joy here tonight.

A couple of decades ago I was lucky enough to have good viewing from the upper Midwest or Ontario at least a few times a year. Sometimes it would outshine the sunset or wake you at midnight.

Now though, I'm in central Europe and the magnetic latitude is just too low to ever really have a shot at it. I might as well be in Memphis or Atlanta, or even worse with the usual cloud cover. It was a terrible trade-off just for good beer.
