Invasion of the miniature killer frogs: Rainforests invaded by tiny amphibians that can kill with one touch (and they’re smaller than a 50p coin)

They are smaller than a 50p coin, and appear harmless.

But one touch of a tiny puny poison dart frog could prove fatal.

The miniature breed, which is native to the Pico Bonito National Park in Honduras, measures just two centimetres in size, but harbours a toxic skin so potent, it can be fatal to humans.

The stunning critter secretes pumiliotoxin A, which blocks muscle contractions in the human body, paralysing muscles, which can lead to a heart attack and respiratory failure.

Despite the risk the frogs pose, marine biologist and keen wildlife photographer Simon Pierce was mesmerised when he stumbled across them.

Bringing them back here to get lose, and mate with other frogs. (if that's even possible, sounds like the other frogs would die.) Still an epidemic of tiny killer frogs in the USA WOULD wipe out populations of unsuspecting people.

11. No worries, they actually get their poisons from eating toxic bugs.

If they're bred in captivity (or presumably an environment free from the insects), they're completely harmless - there's actually a small market for keeping them as pets. Which would be totally metal, btw.

The NBGA (National Blow Gun Assoc) is lobbying Congress to protect the
frogs as an Endangered Species. This way, there will be a large supply of ammo
for the millions of blowguns they are planning to sell in the North American market.

2nd Amendment must cover blowguns too, I figure.

8. I don't think the mere touch of these frogs can kill you.

I think the toxin has to get into a cut or into your mouth or eyes to affect you. If you lick them or eat them you most likely will die.

9. Invasion? These frogs are natives of the rainforest, NOT invaders.

The article title is quite wrong. The article contains no information about the tiny frogs "invading" any place. It acknowledges that the frogs are indigenous to the rainforest where they were noticed and photographed. Why the stupid article title?

We, who are not living in this rainforest in Honduras, have nothing to fear from these frogs. And the people of Honduras have a lot more to fear from the U.S. government and its local fascist allies than they do from these tiny, poisonous frogs in their protected park. The corrupt, murderous, failed U.S. "war on drugs" has invaded this country, along with expanding Pentagon bases and vicious "free trade for the rich," as well as U.S. State Department-run, fake and fraudulent elections.

Who is killing hundreds of Honduran leftists, union leaders and journalists? NOT the tiny frogs!

Okay, I know it's just the pose, but that photo does make the froglet look to be an arrogant, contentious little personality.
