40,000-year-old bracelet made by extinct human species found

40,000-year-old bracelet made by extinct human species found

By Stephen Morgan May 8, 2015 in Science .

In what is quite an amazing discovery, scientists have confirmed that a bracelet found in Siberia is 40,000 years old. This makes it the oldest piece of jewelry ever discovered, and archeologists have been taken aback by the level of its sophistication.

The bracelet was discovered in a site called the Denisova Cave in Siberia, close to Russia's border with China and Mongolia. It was found next to the bones of extinct animals, such as the wooly mammoth, and other artifacts dating back 125,000 years.
The cave is named after the Denisovan people — a mysterious species of hominins from the Homo genus, who are genetically different from both Homo sapiens and Neanderthals.

We know that the Denisovans migrated out of Africa sometime after the first wave of Homo erectus, and well before us, Homo sapiens.
The Denisovans were unique in many ways, having branched away from other humanoid ancestors some 1 million years ago. Indeed, the recent discovery of a female Denisovan finger bone and various teeth shows that they had no morphological similarities to either Neanderthals or modern humans.

But it is just about as credible as their other explanations of thing I am sure.

It is not anyway science, it is all just constructed story...a story that supports their own theory that history is linear and we are at the top. An ego trip at best.
The truth is that we don't know shit about it.

Ever since Europeans got a sense of history they have been erasing it when they win a war.

It took a fragment of a smashed slab to decipher hieroglyphics.

[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]You know, when certain people carry on about "racial purity," and others about 6000 years and such nonsense. Not only are humans today all interracial to some degree, we're actually an inter-species breed with origins about a million years ago.

Take that, you Genesis thumpers and idiotic racial purists!

And it will keep doing that. In our lifetime this other human like population has been found. Also - now we know the Neanderthals did not so much die out, we absorbed their DNA by interbreeding. If we have any non African blood we have Neanderthal DNA in us- some homo sapiens back then walked on the wild side.

It's also recently been proven that birds are descendants of dinosaurs.

More changes to come. The past is mysterious and who knows.

I watch some "Ancient Aliens" and a lot of it seems a stretch but some of it not so much.

Funny how we project ourselves onto things. I remember the TV animal shows from my youth, like Wild Kingdom, that projected all kinds of human motivations on animal behavior in the wild (though I imagine these Denisovians were quite human).

Writing in the Novosibirsk magazine, Science First Hand, Dr Derevyanko said: "There were found two fragments of the bracelet of a width of 2.7cm and a thickness of 0.9 cm. The estimated diameter of the find was 7cm. Near one of the cracks was a drilled hole with a diameter of about 0.8 cm."

"Studying them, scientists found out that the speed of rotation of the drill was rather high, fluctuations minimal, and that was there was applied drilling with an implement - technology that is common for more recent times", Dr. Derevyanko told the Siberiantimes.

''The bracelet is stunning - in bright sunlight it reflects the sun rays, at night by the fire it casts a deep shade of green,' said Anatoly Derevyanko, Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography in Novosibirsk, part of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Chlorite was not found in the vicinity of the cave and is thought to have come from a distance of at least 200km, showing how valued the material was at the time.

what is very curious about this news is that even though the stone has a a relative low Mohs scale it still needed the technology to drill the hole and polish the stone. It is a rather advanced piece for its dating. Its like the figure they found at Gobeki Tepe the 12,ooo year old site that is also advance that has a belt buckle engraved on its figure. We are lacking a big piece in our historical record that was erased during the rapid melting of the ice caps which now have been proven to be done by either a comet or meteor.

The Prometheus theory not with standing is interesting but I'd rather know what happened when we came out of africa 200k years ago and really did nothing and then had a full blown civilization come out of Sumer. That's a lot of time to do stuff
