More than 100 wildfires have blazed across the Arctic since June, scientists built ''the Big Red Ball'' to learn about the sun in a laboratory and the moon is older than scientists once thought. These are just some of the top stories this week from Space.com.

The Arctic is heating up faster than other parts of the world

The Arctic is especially dry and hot this summer, and the region has experienced over 100 wildfires since June. Officials with NASA's Earth Observatory shared imagery of the fires from space, adding that the largest blazes were likely sparked by lightning. These fires are taking a toll on the atmosphere, releasing about 100 megatons of carbon dioxide from June 1 to July 21.
