Reuters reports that the Trump Administration is drafting an outline for development and mining activity on the moon.
The Trump administration is developing legal plans to begin mining on the moon and create bases there with a number of U.S. allies, according to Reuters.
The outlet reports that the plans are part of a U.S.-sponsored international agreement known as the Artemis Accords. Mining lunar rocks and subsurface water could be converted to rocket fuel.
Reuters says sources say the agreement proposes "safety zones" to prevent countries from damaging future bases on the moon and irons out a legal framework for companies to own the resources they mine.

(25,111 posts)sounds like he's preparing to leave mother earth before he completely effs it up. Plus it would take trillions of dollars, I know he and his cronies are sucking the USA dry, but this would take at least 20 or so years.

(53,759 posts)they still haven't figured out how to do virus testing and contact tracing and they want people to believe they can figure out how to mine minerals on the moonwith trump in charge.
Puh-leeze!
And stable geniuses please tell us how you're going to get enough fuel and propulsion up there to get any payload back here? Ever thought about WEIGHT?

(89 posts)with only a little more effort than to throw a softball on earth. However, it would still hit you like a bowling ball. Dropping mass back into earth's gravity well would be next to free.
It's not that the basic science is wrong, it's that the most ignorant anti-science president in history claims to understand it.
Also, there's a pesky UN treaty that declares all orbital bodies (moons, planets, comets, asteroids) as the common inheritance of ALL humanity.

(89 posts)political appointee at NASA will have the science grasp of your average 4-year old. The launch vehicle will probably blow up on the pad, a-la Apollo 1. (a disgusting unprepared rush-job done entirely for political theatre...lead by a beloved Democratic president)
But the basic science and physics for mining the moon (or other bodies ) has been around for many decades, and doesn't know party lines.
(edit: the physics has been around forever, we've understood it for decades.)
No, the tRump gang will never pull this off. But it's gonna happen, and unless this country gets it's scientific shit together, it's gonna happen by China. That would be doubleplusungood.

(12,712 posts)That sounds like an apt use of time and resources right now, if your a rabid capitalist or a closet fascist, (is there really a difference?) that is.
Project: STRIP MINE THE MOON! "Because, well, we're almost done with raping the Earth. The funny thing is, resources are actually running out here and, for some reason the infinite garbage dump idea is also not working. Curious thing that. Infinite growth is infinite, no?"
I want to get me one of them Space Sanitation franchises someday so I can pilot my refuse ship for round trips full of refuse and dump 'em on the Moon. I wonder which Trump Mobster will be taking bribes for the applications?
