New 'Metafabric' Passively Cools The Human Body by Almost 5 Degrees Celsius

As the world gets hotter with climate change, one of the ongoing challenges humans will face is simply surviving worsening heat, with projected temperature increases expected to bring increasingly deadly heatwaves, even rendering some parts of the world uninhabitable.

Against such harsh heat, a new material developed by scientists in China could have the potential to help keep human bodies much cooler, thanks to a fabric that reflects light and heat away to a remarkable degree.

OK, this is timely. Yes, I live out west.

It doesn't get hot in Oakland often, but I have seen 107 a couple of times. I would love some of that fabric.

I can understand reflecting light, but if it's just bloody hot and muggy, what's there to reflected away?

It could in theory feel similar, temp-wise, to having nothing on as opposed to having clothes on, with a benefit even indoors.

Not sure that's possible, but if it were, and this does it, that could be nice.

otherwise, no deal. I can stand hot and dry better than warm and wet.

So i moved to the desert.

It seems to work by reflecting light way down into the infrared range, meaning heat. Supposedly it's some sort of fabric combined with nanotech. I can see all sorts of applications, like roofing materials with this stuff in it.

I order summer tops from an Indian company. They still weave 100% cotton in India. Everybody else seems to stick plastic in it.
