If you don't believe in God, you are an atheist. It doesn't matter "what you're all about" or all the baggage and all of the philosophy that other people assign to atheists. He doesn't want to be part of the debate, and I respect that, but you don't get to redefine words to suit your position, as people in another forum are so fond of doing.

He cares just as much about lack of golf as he does about lack of religion. I get it.

Why would it matter to anyone whether he will claim atheism, or refuse to be categorized?

...but doesn't want to be labeled in anyway. And he doesn't practice any religious ritual and doesn't see the need to bother discussing this matter unless GOD HIMSELF appears out of nowhere. Then and only then will he consider the matter.

Everyone would prefer to be defined by the sum of their parts rather than their constituent qualities. I get that. However, saying you don't believe in God--the very definition of atheist--and then complaining you don't want to call yourself an atheist is just fucking silly. Rather than divesting yourself of the label, the label needs to be divested of all assumption that being atheist means anything more than not believing in God.

It isn't like we spend an hour in the same room every Sunday affirming how alike and ideologically consistent we all are...
