A day in which our believers stood in solidarity cheering suppression of religion and

our unbelievers championed the rights of believers to express their religious beliefs.

All without any hint of embarrassment from our friends who claim they are all about seeking common ground.

That one was easy to find.

So much for the idea that everyone is entitled to their religious belief.

Well, they needed a new poutrage. Their latest "atheists behaving badly" thread ran out of steam.

That one always cracks me up:

"You atheists have a SERIOUS PROBLEM with sexism & misogyny!"

"Golly! I didn't realize. I guess we atheists should get help from some nice, unbiased organization free of sexism & misogyny. Maybe the Catholic Church can help!"

I wonder if they saw through their own bullshit or what? I guess you can only stagger along so far on broken analogies, ad hominem, and false equivalency, before you yourself notice something is amiss.

If they are on a pre-approved list.

I wonder where I need apply to make sure pastafarians are on the list.

...because historical evidence shows it to be a relatively recent phenomenon, and entirely the product of medieval Christian hysteria.

Of course, we wouldn't think about getting our knickers in a twist about a Wiccan, Mormon, or Scientologist service. That would be bigotry!

A law gets passed stopping animal cruelty and its anti-Semitic. But you can do and say anything against satanism and its A-okay.

Pope defending homophobic policies against gay marriage and adoption? He's not a bigot, you are the bigot for judging him based on his own action or words. Or post a thread saying that atheism has an MRA problem, that's not bigoted at all.

If just about any of the major religions wanted to put a statue up at the Ok. courthouse they would be cheering. Satanist or an atheist monument and its a different story.

I bet there are even a few pagan sects that some of them would not be too thrilled about and trying to find some excuse to declare it not a real religion.

Pit two of the "real" religions against one another and watch them spin their wheels.

They say Catholic Church has every right to get their cassocks in a twist about some pissant group of non-theistic Satanists muttering pig Latin while dressed up like Aleister fucking Crowley, but Orthodox Jews are divisive assholes for pulling the same crap on Mother Church.

The situations are different. Why? Because we said so.

If an act is done out of sincere religious belief and/or religious tradition, we are not allowed to criticize or judge it. This includes excorcisms, genital mutilation, and acts of animal cruelty.

Unless the religion is deemed mockable by the CCE/AoAT, then anything they do is completely stupid and its adherents and leaders can be insulted and smeared.

It's very simple, you see.

I believe the youngsters are calling it "heavy metal." Well, as I was saying to Pastor Fuckyouropinion after the bean supper last Sunday, they're just a fad and will be gone soon. I certainly wouldn't want to see that Osbourne fellow on my television every week. Brrr! I hope he never has children.

Now let's go back to planning how our faith will triumph in the glorious, shiny new decade of the 1970s. But we're just too successful right now, and really need to work on being more mediocre...

for not wanting the pope to desecrate their sacred whatevers by celebrating a Christian ceremony therein. With no appreciation for the stunning hypocrisy, even when it is spelled out carefully, several times, using small words.

is more speech, not less. They feel it's perfectly okay to call the Satanists' beliefs "abhorrent" and support preventing them from carrying out the "Black Mass" because it mocks others' religious practices, but FSM forbid you should call their beliefs even something as mild as "silly" or "weird." (And let's face it, some religious beliefs are deserving of mockery and outright derision.)

that they have against Satan? The Father of Evil, you say? Jehovah is documented as committing mass murder and genocide on multiple occasions, including wiping out all but 8 people on earth, just because they wouldn't worship him in the right way. You don't get much more evil than that. What has Satan done to balance that? Ummmmm..nothing.

17. I've always liked Mark Twain's quote about Satan
Wed May 14, 2014, 10:32 AM
May 2014
"But who prays for Satan? Who, in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most?"

I also contributed some money to the Satanists' monument* because to me it's about free speech rather than mockery. They followed the proper procedures and submitted their application just like any other organization, and it was telling that the Ten Commandments display (paid for by State Representative Mike Ritze) was allowed on government property, but after the Satanists applied to get a privately-funded monument of their own put up, suddenly all applications got put on hold until the ACLU lawsuit is settled.

It also gets really tiring seeing religions (specifically, in the US, Christianity) being given undeserved privilege and even worse to see that defended here, on an otherwise progressive website. (And don't even get me started on the whole, "In your opinion, the 'Black Mass' is about religious freedom and you think it could've been an educational experience, but your opinion is wrong" condescending bullshit going on here. It must be awesome to be able to suss out the motives of people you've never met like some sort of cyber-psychic who can read people's minds over the internet. )
