(Misleading thread title, but I couldnt resist.)
SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) - The hill where the crucifixion of Jesus Christ was re-enacted in the Black Hills for decades is the proposed site for a statue of Jesus.
A local nonprofit is looking for artists for the project in the area known as Spearfish Hill.
The crucifixion was re-enacted on the hill and a 6,000-seat amphitheater was used for the Black Hills Passion Play from 1939 through 2008.
Rand Williams is the owner of the amphitheater and is also behind the effort to erect the statue.
Williams last year told Spearfish City Council members that the statue would be taller than 35 feet.
Council members showed skepticism and raised concerns about violating the separation of church and state as the statue would be on city-owned land.

I would so support this! When we attended BHSU for several summers during the 1970's, our family participated in the cast of the Passion Play. It was totally normal during the Crucifixion of Jesus for their to be lightning and thunder even if it was a perfectly beautiful summer night in the Black Hills of SD. It was enough to give you goose bumps. Joseph Maier was a great 'Jesus,' the play was so well organized and the costumes were always immaculate. It was a class act. I am so sorry that they don't present 'the 'Passion Play' there any more it was a perfect location. The acoustics were amazing. We knew a lot of the cast and were privileged to play a variety of characters. It was a great family experience. We have great memories of that.

I agree. However, as the years rolled by, up to around the year 2000, the Passion Play got infested hence dominated by impious homosexuals who made fun of Jesus, even right up to where they began the triumphant entry in the first scene. It was despicable.

Ill bet the statue goes up.

It's maddening, isn't it?

(5,351 posts)that what they're doing is unconstitutional--or they do understand and they're just being colossal dicks about it. It also has to keep getting fought over and over because even some otherwise liberal believers think that organizations like the FFRF are just being too sensitive and need to choose their battles more carefully. (Note: I've actually seen at least one of the usual suspects make that very claim in That Other Group. It's all kumbaya-mongering, all the time, at least until those uppity atheists stand up for themselves. )
I know your questions were rhetorical but I just couldn't resist.

(12,153 posts)Another comment from the mom:
Well on that note, the homosexuals have become way too powerful in our nation. I have friends that are homosexual and I love them but their agenda is way too powerful and now the atheists are using their playbook to promote their religion. This country used to be a nation of majority rules now it seems that the minority rule and it is really bad for our nation. Anyway, I still hope they place a statue of Jesus on the property.

(19,964 posts)Frankly, I wonder about these supposed friends of hers. I really don't know of many people who would call their gay friends "homosexuals" rather than just "gay". That might seem like a minor point to most but to me her manner of speech bespeaks someone who may have a gay acquaintance on the periphery of her social circle but not someone with gay friends.
frogmarch
(12,153 posts)has gay friends. She and her husband love to visit and will try to chat it up with anyone they can corner in grocery stores, eating places, you name it, and maybe they've perceived one or some of those people as "homosexuals." I'm with you in that I've never heard anyone call their gay friends "homosexuals," and it's one reason I too doubt she has gay friends.
I've never heard her rant on about gays, but her son does. He's fixated on "the homosexual agenda." Author Poe Ballantine found him so bizarre and kooky that he put him in his book Love & Terror on the Howling Plains of Nowhere. If you'd like to see him, he's the guy in this L&T documentary intro who's wearing a black western jacket, red shirt and white tie: ("It made me very suspicious, very incredulous..."

(9,356 posts)Yep, we really need to get rid of that useless, outdated Bill of Rights. What a POS. Without that st00pid thing, the majority could really rule as God intended.
We should probably take another look at the Divine Right of Kings, too. Queen Elizabeth II is a really nice person, and her husband seems to have the right idea about those uppity minority types.

(12,153 posts)The woman is as ditsy as they come a total airhead. I first met her and her husband at the Dawes Co. 2008 Democratic presidential caucus. They stood for Hillary. At the coffee afterwards, she said she was quite impressed with Mike Huckabee and wondered why no one there was supporting him.
I was going to respond to her Chadrad post, but I realized it would be a waste of time.
