I've never encountered this sort of language before and I am unclear what it means. Can anyone help?

(12,153 posts)"abated," and that "bated" could mean "calmed." (Calmed by his very presence.)
Just a guess.
AlbertCat
(17,505 posts)But "bated" means "in great suspense" when used like "bated breath" (of which "baited" is a common misspelling)
"Baited" of course refers to like a fish hook or a trap.... something to lure prey. THAT fits!

(19,964 posts)But perhaps the person was having an orgasmic religious experience, in which case they meant to say "sated by his very presence" rather than "baited".

(2,380 posts)this is just too incredibly "insider." I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only one who has no idea what's going on here. I love this forum/group. But half of the time I'm clueless.

...it's sometimes like a Robin Williams sketch, where he goes off on a tirade of jokes, and steps out of character for half a second and asks did you get that, no, to bad catch-up

Excerpt:
And because of this mind blowing, world rocking weekend- I have somehow ceased to function. But in a good way. It is like God has brought me into a place of ..breathing. A place of being more present. My to do list stopped flashing before my eyes at night, and has been replaced with thoughts of His grace. My extra minutes were not spent pouring over countless emails but instead were spent reading. I want worship music playing in the background of my day, instead of the latest photography podcast. I became less interested in off-camera lighting and more interested in discerning His voice.
Its as if God has urged me to stop. And breathe. No like REALLY breathe. Ever feel that way? Where you just hit the ground running and forget to stop and remember whats most important in your life?
The funny thing is how He has done it. There was no business crisis or technology breakdown. He simply baited me with His wonderful presence this weekend, and now its all I can think about.
Bated or baited, it makes no sense.

(33,573 posts)we would think of baiting in a negative way, like flame bait or baiting someone into a fight. This person used it in a positive way.
I see it as a stressed person who needed a break, and when her body told her to slow down, she interpreted it as God telling her.
She might be a workaholic who is guilty about taking a break and God telling her to makes it acceptable.
This is similar to my post about depression and belief in the religion forum.
