Obsessive atheists

Are certain atheists suffering from the delusion that they are entitled to make specious points against all believers on DU?

Do certain atheists think that multiple posts on the same subject earns any respect?

Are certain atheists trying to get banned from the religion group so they can shout oppression?

Are certain atheists just acting as trolls?

and then all of the supposedly nice theists clapped and applauded and noted how deserved the scolding was for very the very act of showing up in a group that is allegedly open to both believers and non-believers, perhaps that person would decide that this being nice stuff was fucking hogwash and act accordingly.

Not to name names or anything because "callouts" are not noted in the TOS as expressly forbidden.

I am guessing that many in Religion get the point but just refuse to deal with it so they feign being obtuse.

In case you are that clueless, here's the point: plenty of religious beliefs are pass off even at DU as no acceptable even by those that are religious and by fathiests. The point being made is that the line between those that they choose to mock (cbayer and Starboard Tack apparently passed time on a long road trip reading the Book of Mormon (the holy book not the play) out loud and laughing oh so much) and those that are "demanding of respect." The multiple posts are trying to pin down a line. That nobody wants to play that game is just an indication that if they said what they thought (those religions aren't deserving of respect) that they would have no defense for their particular religious beliefs being respected.

That being said, as a host here, I don't think your tone is especially on-point in this group. Not that you can't talk about why those posts are being made, but you might want to come in with a little less animosity as a lead-off.

For the lurkers, notice how I'm dealing with this.

One of my posts was deleted by jury this morning...5 to 2.

In the post, I free associated about a point of Sunday school belief and carried it to its logical conclusion. Since it was removed, I received supporting email criticizing the jury decision.

There are three other topics that are forbidden on D.U.

Criticizing Obama. Criticizing Hillary. Anything that offends the female sensitivity.

This even goes to the absurd point that some posts require a "trigger warning."

What horse doody. I was going to say horse shit but I don't want the post to be hidden.

15. On obsession and starting threads
Tue Aug 19, 2014, 07:02 PM
Aug 2014

The number of times one starts a thread in any one group is indicative of....well I'm not sure.

But to me it appears that some use the "other board" as a pulpit. There just are a huge number of threads started by one or two posters.

Is that obsessive?....in a DU environment?

A single page listing threads has 80 listed. Just counting up today's....thus far at 7:00PM... the top thread starter over there has 23 threads started. The next highest is 18. That's 41 threads from 2 posters. Over half.... but not by much so we'll say 1/2 on one page.

Over here, today's list of 80 has 14 by the poster who has started the most threads on the list. The 2nd place poster has 9. That's 23.... the amount of the one big thread starter "over there". And we're a SAFE HAVEN! not a general group.

This is not scientific, and doesn't have anything to do with posts within threads or the subject of threads. But there is clearly a different dynamic going on between who (obsessively?) starts threads. One board surely seems more open and not dominated by a few than the other.

Apparently if an atheist farts anywhere in the world, it calls for a thread in The Other Group. And if the fart occurred within earshot of a believer, it's evidence that atheists hate all religious people.

It's also entertaining to see how many of those threads are way down at the bottom of the page. Usually with only one or two responses from the usual Amen Charlies (& Charlottes).*

SPIES - the following is an analogy, not a call-out or direct comparison. So save your rage alerts for the next Dawkins thread.

IMO, the obsession with us does border on the creepy sometimes. It reminds me of the gay-bashers who seem endlessly fascinated with the lifestyle of gay couples. Where the gay couple's response is usually: "We're as boring as everybody else. Please just leave us alone."

*Since you're British, not sure if you have this phenomenon: in many Southern Protestant churches, the "Amen Charlie" was a guy who supported the preacher by enthusiastically shouting "Amen!" during the sermon. Sort of like a shill in a gambling casino.

Is a certain atheist just acting as a troll?

We're loud, proud, and in-your-face with our atheism, and aren't likely to apologize for it. Would you request that the LGBT community stop fighting simply because they've made the same points before? The African-American community? Why is it different with atheists? Why does religion alone earn the privilege to go unquestioned?

Others have different opinions, and that's OK.

But I also think the people who feel a need to go out of the way to police anonymous message boards and lecture others on behavior, while engaging in the same behavior themselves, are the ones who are out of line.
