Atheists & Agnostics
Related: About this forumTime to block another relative from sending me emails.
In ten years I have yet to receive anything of importance from her. And nothing I say seems to make any difference to her so I think she'll just have to be blocked.
This is her latest email/dreck. It's chock-full-o-stupid.
A very powerful cartoon ..please keep it going.
This should be posted in every school in Canada and the USA
Only 31 words Think about it!
Isnt life strange? I never met one Veteran who enlisted to fight for Socialism!
86% will send this on.
If Muslims can pray on Madison Avenue, why are Christians banned from praying in public and from erecting religious displays on their holy days?
What happened to our National Day of Prayer?
Muslims are allowed to block off Madison Ave. , in N.Y.C., and pray in the middle of the street! And, its a monthly ritual!
Tell me, again, whose country is this?
Ours or the Muslims?
I was asked to send this on if I agree, or delete if I dont.
It is said that 86% of Americans & Canadians believe in God.
Therefore, I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a problem in having In God! We Trust on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance or the Lords prayer said in our schools or public meetings.
I believe its time we stand up for what we believe!

(6,604 posts)the in-law that used to send me similar tripe that I was an atheist, after which the e-mails immediately stopped.
Sorry you've had to put up with this thing for so long. Seems to me you don't have much choice here, unfortunately.

(5,043 posts)I kinda quietly changed email. She is too old for me to fight with, no matter how many snopes articles i sent...I still got stuff like this or Obama wasn't born in the U.S.
You can have one of my progressive cousins though they actually send the good stuff.

(49,962 posts)I used Snopes and some other references to respond to this little gem about removing "In God We Trust" from coins: http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/dollarcoin.asp
My well reasoned email apparently made no impression because she had no idea what I was talking about when I saw her a few weeks later. THEN, a year or so after that, she sent me the very same bullshit email AGAIN.
I also hit 'reply all' so all the other wackos on her email list could read it. A couple people responded angrily with, "who are you?!?" and "don't send me email!!". On the plus side, one guy said something like, "Thanks for the info, that makes more sense". So that was nice.

Best not to think it through too much.

(9,356 posts)My St00pid e-mail filter seems to be working right now and I want to keep it that way. Had fun for a while, though...
In the Year Of Our Dawkins 2012, a concerned relative sent me an email about Madalyn Murray O'Hair trying to ban religious TV/radio programs.
I responded that O'Hair had been dead since 1995, and sent her the Snopes link about the "ban" stuff. Which is so old it pre-dates the Internet by quite a few years. Even the FCC has complained about all the time it has to waste on that rumor.
Another male relative is not only a Bible-thumper, but a flag-waving uber-patriot. He actually sent an interesting email with photos - about a WWII tank pulled out of a swamp in Russia, that fired up and ran once it was cleaned off.
Even the big white swastika painted on the turret was in good shape. So my kinsman took that as an opportunity to brag about "great German technology."
Whoops! That wasn't a German tank. It was a Russian T-34 tank captured by the Germans.*
So being an occasional asshole, I smirkingly responded that he wasn't praising German technology. But the technology of the EBIL GODLESS COMMIES under Joe Stalin.
He thanked me for the correction, but wasn't too happy about it.
*I am a Tank Geek. Yes, I will be seeing the movie "Fury." Which does not star Brad Whosis IMO. The real star of that movie is the world's only running German Tiger tank, captured in North Africa in 1943. It belongs to the Bovington Tank Museum in the UK.

(18,219 posts)and it is from people who I don't necessarily want to block, since they are relatives or people that I like to jack with.
I am always saddened at the stupid when it comes to "Christians banned from praying in public" or "erecting religious displays on their holy days". This is such a load of crap that I can't even argue it.....they know damned well that they can pray whenever the hell they want to, even in a public meeting, as long as they keep that to themselves. And they can pray on the street corner all day long, although most people (even Christians) will totally ignore them. And they know that they can erect anything that they want on their own property or on church property...the only place it is not allowed is on government property. That leaves a lot of space for them to show god how much they love him.
So....I think that it is time we also stand up for what we believe. And what is Constitutional.
