Keep the Bible out of public policy.
A recent online discussion with some alleged Christians sparked an idea.
We have to keep the Bible out of public policy. Remember our Founding Fathers and their (imperfect) attempt to keep state and church separate? They fled England to escape a government that was inextricably bound up with the church. In this case, the Anglican church. Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Madison, Hamilton did not mention "church" or "higher authority" in their Constitution. They wanted all churches treated equally, and kept at arms length (my phrase).
The Anglican Church used the Bible too, let's remember.
There's this other growing religion called Islam, and they have an ancient book too, the Koran, that rather means a lot to them. Maybe you've heard of it.
I can easily imagine a day when American Muslims could begin to clamor for their ancient book to have equal footing in law, if we allow the Bible to guide our public policy.
Keep the Bible out of public policy and you keep the Koran out of public policy.
Hmmm...sounded good at the time.
