...the Atheists are coming....
Had to share, my daughter sent this to me.
BTW, please be extra kind to newbies in the next month or so, she said she may be joining the discussion here.

(18,219 posts)As to being kind to newbies.....we are always kind to them. Well, as long as they don't post anti-atheist things here. She is most welcome and I hope that she does join.

(436 posts)I've never never been treated badly here. My first post in another group was pounced on, however, though I was very civil and as diplomatic as possible. I think if I hadn't been observed getting along here before hand, I would have had a different reception.

(18,219 posts)Just posting here is enough to cause others to treat you differently in another group. I really do not understand the reasons for it. To be honest, it has made me less tolerant of religion than if the believers would just try to have a conversation about whatever the discussion in question covers. I used to be a firm supporter of "to each his own" philosophy, but I have been talked down to too many times now that I do understand the frustration that other atheists have and why it shows up in their posts.

(9,356 posts)... that is a day to day scene at home (or so my reported reputation seems to be).
She could eat that DI for lunch, being the first girl on her high school wrestling team.
In all honesty, I know full well that she will be treated well here, if she finds the time to join (organic chemistry has been tougher than any DI).
Thanks all,

(18,219 posts)That was the hardest subject that I had in getting my biology degree. It may have been the professor, or it may have been the subject, but it was brutal. My sympathy to her.

(7,316 posts)This is not a quote of his, but an ascerbic summation of his religious philosophy:
There is no God, but Mary is his mother.

(20 posts)I've been kicking around this site for the past couple of weeks and recently decided to join in the hopes of finally connecting to some fellow atheists. I also liked the idea of having a safe place to post good memes and/or quotes that I find, because Facebook just doesn't quite seem like the place to do it...

This is probably one of my favorites:
Anyway, I hope you enjoy your stay here!

(18,219 posts)I understand that FB is not always the best place to post atheist memes, since too many people are watching and it is not anonymous. There is still the stigma that we have to deal with.
This is a "safe" place, in that DU is anonymous, but it is not safe from other eyes. Keep that in mind.
Welcome.
My standard welcome message to new members:
But I dont want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you cant help that," said the Cat: "were all mad here. Im mad. Youre mad."
"How do you know Im mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldnt have come here.
And a free meme. We put the next one on your Evil Atheist charge account, along with your rubber chicken, Anti-Rapture Helmet and plastic Richard Dawkins figurine for the dashboard of your car:
...that reminds me, I never got my Dawkins figurine.
I was looking forward to that.
Darn it...

(9,356 posts)The Dawkins Bobblehead. Hmmm. $75.00 each. Maybe we can do a group buy and get the religious volume discount.

(5,351 posts)75 bucks is a little steep for me right now, though.
Aw, he did a limited edition Carl Sagan one, but it's no longer available.
A goody bag! Methinks I will rather like it here
