Here's a comment posted by davidf42: Several times now, the strip has mentioned Little Nemo going to Sunday School or Church. I appreciate an age when people could talk about such things without fear of reprisal from such devil inspired organizations as the Freedom From Religion Foundation and a few others.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and call this person deluded. There is no law preventing a cartoonist from inserting religious elements in their comic strips. And if they did, the FRFF wouldn't give a shit. The following discussion was similar to what you get in the other group.

1. While there is no law against putting De Lawd in comics,

Wizard of Id was dropped from several papers for proselytizing.

4. I remember B.C.

As Johnny Hart became senile, his strips became unreadable. They were practically bible verses. This is hardly the same as Little Nemo going to church or Sunday school. The strip appeared on Sunday, so it had topical references. The FFRF or any similar organization at the time didn't call for newspapers to drop B.C., newspapers weren't published by the government. The editors of some papers found Hart's strips to be over the top, and as they weren't a religious group, made decisions that they thought were best for their readership.

Family Circus and Dennis the Menace also began introducing religious platitudes as their creators reached old age, but they weren't as obnoxious as Hart. The poster I quoted just wanted to spout some nonsense and direct some hate at the FFRF. Religious freedom in this country has quite a struggle when even the comics page is made a battlefield by these nincompoops.

7. It's religious persecution!!!!

I loved the BS post in the comments over there about how FFRF is unconstitutional because they are somehow preventing the "free exercise thereof" of religion by getting the FFRF message out there.

Of course, churches and temples and synagogues, and mosques getting their message out there while getting tax breaks and Faith Based Initiative subsidies is completely constitutional....because that's, y'know, different!
