“Because of his religious beliefs, we’re not even sure what (the illness) was,”

I just read this quote about the death of the singer Jack Ely. I assume that he was a Christian Scientist.

Or is there another crackpot religion that ignores medicine?

(PORTLAND, Ore.) — Jack Ely, the singer known for “Louie Louie,” the low-budget recording that became one the most famous songs of the 20th century, died at his home in Redmond, Oregon, after a long battle with an illness. He was 71.

His son, Sean Ely, confirmed the death Tuesday.

“Because of his religious beliefs, we’re not even sure what (the illness) was,” he said.

In his later years, Ely worked as a horse trainer in Central Oregon, living with his wife in Terrebonne, near Bend, in a mobile home. He was still pursuing music, as well as his Christian faith: in 2012, he released a gospel album, "Love is All Around You Now," a mellow, string-laden collection miles from the young howler who once sang "Louie Louie."

I can't.

"western medicine"...... is "eastern medicine" different? Is "southern medicine"? Are they more effective?

I thought it was just "medicine"..... 'cause, y'know, "ancient Chinese secret" just doesn't cut it.

"western medicine" and I've asked her the same thing. Southern medicine, eastern medicine, whatever? I usually get the eye roll and the disgusted look. It's all just medicine. I was thinking of her when I posted.

I have no doubt he could have had a better quality of life if he had sought medical advice.

And people call atheists bigots for comparing religious belief to delusion...
