Please Pray for a child born into absurd privilege wealth and luxury?

Or not. I think not. What do you think?

Why would anyone expend any effort at all on praying for a royal baby?

1. Why???

May 2015

Why the holy fuck, even if you ARE religious, would you pray for a child that has EVERYTHING? Why not pray for every single fucking child born in Afghanistan, because the infant mortality rate there is absurdly dismal. 70 out of every 1,000 children will die before they turn 1, and 97 out of every 1,000 will die before they turn 5. Life expectancy is 62 for women and 60 for men... about 25 years less than in a developed country.

Or pray for every child born in India or Bangladesh or any country in Africa or any other third world country... Why single out this one white privileged child that will NEVER want for anything and will just suck up the resources that COULD go to feed multitudes of others... just cause she got lucky enough to be born into a rich, white family and the whole world, for some insane reason, cares about it...

Posted because of this statue's location. Normally we associate St. George molesting a dragon with the British isles.

This statue is located at the Convent of St. George in Cairo, Egypt. In a 95% Muslim country, it's quite a sight to suddenly encounter.

The Convent is attached to the Coptic Church of St. George, which dates back to the 10th century. The Church itself is built virtually right on top of an ancient Roman military base, Fortress Babylonia.

A short walk from this church is the oldest mosque in Cairo, and the oldest Jewish synagogue in the city. So the whole neighborhood is like a shopping mall of bad ideas.

don't guarantee happiness or a fulfilling life, especially when it means that everything you say and do is under scrutiny by millions of people and that you're being watched, photographed and hounded every single minute of your life that you're out in public. Her parents seem like decent people, but raising a child (or being a child) under those conditions carries difficulties that all the money in the world can't fix.

Even if prayer actually worked, sure, this kid is probably a lot less in need of it than most others. But their life ain't a guaranteed picnic.
